At the end of 2025, when I was done writing things I’d hoped would strike some trend, I wrote an angry novella no one asked for.
SMALL BITES is about a mother who has lost her hunger, and her belief that she is, in fact, totally fine. Until the day she locks herself in the storeroom with a large spider, and learns to recapture what she lost; beginning by breaking down everything that now occupies her space, and feeling her appetite return.
SMALL BITES is about hunger, and sure, it’s got food enough to satisfy.
But it’s more than food, and it’s not about body image. SMALL BITES is about the taste for things left behind. It’s about being so full that you can’t find space in yourself, because of everything you’ve been forced to consume. It’s about silent rage, and locked doors, of interruption that untethers, and the terror of losing yourself.
It’s coming out 11th November 2026 via Space Cowboy Books. I wrote it for us.
